HVOF is already widely adopted in critical sectors such as aerospace and automotive where we are helping customers phase out hexavalent chrome to establish a safer working environment with lower environmental impacts.

Sustainable alternative surface treatments

Salt bath nitriding is a surface treatment process that enhances wear resistance and corrosion protection but generates hazardous waste, including toxic cyanide salts and nitrogen compounds. The process also poses air pollution and health risks if gases are not controlled. Regulatory agencies enforce strict guidelines on waste disposal and emissions, requiring significant investments in pollution control.

Bodycote’s Corr-I-Dur® offers a sustainable alternative to traditional salt bath nitriding. It uses a low-temperature diffusion process in a controlled gaseous atmosphere and eliminates the use of cyanides, significantly reducing environmental risks. The process is compatible with electric furnaces and can be powered by renewable energy sources, further minimising its environmental impact.
