We are taking direct action to manage our use of natural resources and to improve the energy efficiency of our processes.
ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP
OUR 2030 GOAL
We will reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 46%. In 2026, we will reduce our energy consumption by 2%.
OUR PRIORITIES
Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction
Energy use and decarbonisation initiatives (including renewables)
Supply chain emissions reduction
Net-zero roadmap development
Our targets
In 2025, we introduced new environmental leadership targets, including a 46% reduction in our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. We also set ambitious Scope 3 emissions reduction goals, targeting a 45% reduction in fuel and energy-related emissions and for 30% of our suppliers to have set their own carbon reduction targets by 2030. Driving energy efficiency
Energy use is our largest source of emissions, driven primarily by our furnaces, which account for around 70% of a typical facility’s energy consumption. As part of our decarbonisation efforts, we have developed a comprehensive inventory of over 3,000 energy-intensive assets, enabling us to identify strategies for targeted reductions.
In 2025, we achieved a significant milestone by delivering zero operational carbon emissions at two UK heat treatment facilities, Derby and Rotherham. This was followed by a further three sites in Sweden also reaching zero-emissions status, bringing our total to five.
Measuring our progress
Since 2019, we have reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 38% through a combination of energy optimisation and increased use of renewable electricity. We have also made strong progress on Scope 3 emissions, achieving a 41% reduction in fuel- and energy-related emissions against our 2019 baseline.
