Bodycote demonstrates leadership in environmental transparency and a proactive approach to sustainability, optimising thermal processing for manufacturers and working to minimise the environmental impacts of heat treatment.
Combining energy efficiency, electrification and process innovation, Bodycote’s engineers are able to significantly reduce the carbon emissions from the manufacturing of our customers’ products.
As a result, Bodycote plays a major role in avoiding emissions and reducing our customers’ impacts on the climate.
As the only major heat treatment company to have set an SBTi target, we have aligned our ambition to a 1.5°C trajectory.
1. kWp refers to kilowatt peak which is the maximum electrical power output the solar installation can generate under optimum conditions.
2. MWh refers to megawatt hour which is the total electrical energy in a year expected to be generated in a year by this project. 1MWh=1,000kWh.
3. tCO2e refers to tonnes of CO2 equivalent, which is the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by the solar installation displacing use of grid electricity.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) drives ambitious climate action by enabling organisations to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at the latest. Bodycote is supporting its customers in bringing new innovation and more sustainable thermal processing that will enable the industry to meet its long term carbon reduction ambitions.
1. Comparing customers’ thermal processing compared to Bodycote’s actual emissions for the same process. Benefitting through furnace optimisation and improved cycle utilisation.
2. Through a combination of LPC, proprietary Bodycote equipment, and low carbon electricity.

Working with Bodycote can reduce your carbon footprint from heat treatment by up to 60%. By working together with our customers, we can calculate how much carbon we can potentially save you each year. Trusting your heat treatment to Bodycote will:
This will help you make progress towards your organisation's own operational and product sustainability goals.
At the same time, Bodycote is working tirelessly to continue reducing its own carbon footprint through energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy sourcing and process innovation.
The real cost of processing is energy – we know it, it’s our business. Energy is the single biggest cost in heat treatment and can account for up to 80% of components’ carbon footprints. But by using Bodycote’s efficient furnaces in the most optimised and effective way, you can reduce your energy costs as well as industry’s impact on the environment.
Working with Bodycote can play a key role in achieving carbon reduction targets, as well as cutting waste disposal costs. We run a 24-hour heat treatment service and can optimise thermal processing, reducing your carbon footprint through economies of scale and our continuous processing operation.
Bodycote is the partner of choice for the world's most respected and innovative engineering companies. By focusing your resources on your core business and outsourcing non-core heat treatment requirements to Bodycote, you can concentrate on your core processes.
Outsourcing to us will help you via reduced equipment maintenance, capital expenditure, energy and people costs, and your carbon footprint.
Bodycote has publicly committed to an ambitious pathway of carbon reduction and has already reduced its own operational emissions by 29% since 2019.
In 2025, we were awarded an A- leadership score by CDP (the world's leading environmental disclosure system). This grade reflects our leadership in environmental transparency and our proactive approach to sustainability.
