Our decarbonisation roadmap

As the first major heat treatment company to set a science-based carbon reduction target, we are committed to reducing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% by 2030, in line with a 1.5^oC pathway.

To drive continued progress, our decarbonisation roadmap is built on three core priorities:

• Efficiency: We are monitoring and optimising energy-intensive assets while upgrading operations to deliver zero-emissions sites. As of 2025, we now have five zero-emissions sites in operation.
• Electrification: We are increasing the use of electricity to power our operations through the deployment of electric furnaces, on-site renewable generation and sustainable energy procurement.
• Evolution: We are pursuing targeted retrofits and replacements, alongside the adoption of net-zero-ready technologies such as low-carbon process gases and hydrogen technology.

Alongside direct emissions reductions, we are also addressing Scope 3 emissions. Although these represent a smaller proportion of our total footprint, they remain a key focus. By 2030, we aim to achieve a 45% absolute reduction in Scope 3 emissions from fuel- and energy-related activities, and to encourage at least 30% of our suppliers to adopt science-based targets.
