Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

The HIP Services Engineering Manager will work with plant engineers to facilitate the engineering and management of equipment, facility and environmental projects at all Bodycote HIP Service locations.  Included in this scope are the development, assessment and improvement of workflow and preventive maintenance systems, including cost control and reduction. 

Requirements (qualifications & skills):

• Four-year college degree in engineering (required).  Advanced mechanical or electrical engineering degree (preferred)
• Professional Engineers License or Chartered Engineer (preferred)
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in equipment engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment or engineering services. Experience in providing training on maintenance and equipment operation
• Experience with pressure and vacuum systems related to thermal processing equipment, process control and measurement
• Previous multi-site Engineering responsibility
• Contingency planning and systems diagnostic skills
• Experience leading project teams or supervising an engineering team would be a plus
• Language Skills - must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with peers, engineers, and production personnel (French or German a plus)
• Other:  Must have a clear understanding of total quality principles and improvement techniques. Must possess good organizational and communication skills. Must have general business management knowledge. Must be able to travel domestically and globally
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism
• Experience running capital projects for new equipment or process control systems or upgrades
• Skilled in principles and application of lean manufacturing
• Keen analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Essential job functions (duties & responsibilities):

• Works with Bodycote HIP plants to develop and maintain a working knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of all equipment and related instrumentation, including testing and certification procedures and HIP pressure vessel inspections
• Responsible for designing and building certain capital projects, leading projects for operational improvement, reducing energy consumption, productivity, etc.
• Directs or supervises the assessment of facility condition and needs at all locations 
• Develops or reviews divisional facility and equipment projects and plans, including capital appropriation requests.  Ensures compliance with all applicable codes and safety standards
• Participates in the assessment of process safety and/or HAZOP experience and environmental systems and reporting to ensure full legal and ethical compliance
• Implements process improvements and cost reduction activities.  Identifies and communicates best practices
• Interfaces with suppliers to develop and maintain working relationships that support the activities detailed in Items 1-5
• Conducts regularly scheduled engineering reviews for the group and produces a monthly project report
• Must work in a manner consistent with the EMS
• 75% domestic and global travel
